As Holy Week approaches, know of our prayers for each of you individual and as a family. Many of you are parishioners at Holy Family Cathedral and others have parishes and churches elsewhere in the area. If you don't have a spiritual home, we'd love to have you at Holy Family Cathedral for Holy Week. Every Catholic parish will have its own Holy Week schedule, but there are some unique events that will only take place at Holy Family.
The first is Tenebrae. Tenebrae is a series of Psalms and readings accompanied by the gradual extinguishing of candles. As the cathedral darkens, it invites the faithful to enter more deeply into Christ’s Passion, culminating in a moment of darkness that symbolizes the death of the Lord and the silence of the tomb. It will be this Sunday at 7:30pm at the cathedral with Bishop Konderla presiding. The music is gorgeous and it will help you and your family enter into Holy Week. Everyone is welcome.
The other event is the Chrism Mass or The Mass of the Oils. Taking place on the Tuesday of Holy Week each year, it's a special Mass where Bishop Konderla will bless all the oils (oil of the sick, oil of the catechumens, and Sacred Chrism) for the year ahead. It's also an opportunity for the priests of the Diocese of Tulsa to renew our priestly promises. It's a beautiful Mass and I hope you can come. Everyone is welcome.
Here at Holy Family, we'll have about 85 individuals becoming Catholic at the Easter Vigil. We're very excited for these men, women, and children to receive Christ in the sacraments. I've become fond of saying, "We are at our best when we are at prayer" and Holy Week is the Church at prayer at Her best. I hope you'll take advantage of it for you and for your kids.
Finally, I'm pleased to share that our incoming Headmaster Dr. Alex Skufca will be coming to Tulsa in mid April to meet the community, start to acclimate, and find a house. More details will come as that get closer. In the meantime, focus on Christ this week and really enter into this beautiful time of year.
God bless you!
